Happy New Year !
This festive ‘Happy New Year’ stamp was issued by the Russian Post on 1st December 2012. New Year is a holiday that has come to us from ancient times and is still the most gripping and long-awaited celebration. Its main attribute is a Christmas tree. In Russia, the Christmas tree was introduced in 1700, after the decree of Peter the Great, which ordered to decorate the houses with branches of spruce, pine and juniper. In tsarist Russia, the biggest Christmas trees were installed in the Anichkov Palace and the hall of the Nobility Association. In the same places toboggan, carousels, bazaars toys and lottery were organized. Today, artificial Christmas trees are mostly decorated.
